So We Moved to Mount Charleston, Nevada

I decided it would be fun to chronicle some of the goings on up here on Mount Charleston.  We moved in three weeks ago and spent our first two nights shivering under layers of covers and multiple layers of clothes. Why, you ask?  Because the beautiful house we rented has no central heat and the heaters in the Walls were noisy and did little to heat a whole room.  Ever been camping?  That is exactly what it was like.  If you have to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night, you know it's going to be cold out there.  When morning comes, well, you have no choice but to get out from under and brave the cold bathroom.

So, we went out and bought stand alone heaters for almost every room.  That has helped.  We are here three weeks and the night before last the power went out due to high winds.  You guessed it, no power, no heaters. Hmmm....back to camping and not very much fun.  You know what comes next, we'll need to get a small generator to at least run the heaters.  NV Energy should be very happy with us this Winter.

Blankets on the windows and deck sliders until we get the window insulation that you blow dry on. You see, the stores in the Valley don't carry Winter gear.  No idea why since it snows on Mt. Charleston every Winter and they are only 25 minutes down the mountain.  This Sunday a trip to Cedar City, UT so we can get all the Winter supplies we need.

Last night we drove home (fortunately in my Volvo) in a snow/sleek storm.  Woke up this morning to about 4 inches and the cars covered because, you guessed it, we still haven't cleared out the garage. No snow shovel or utensils to remove the snow from the cars, we improvised.  David did an awesome job using makeshift apparatus to clear out the driveway while I used the top of a moving box to clear off the cars.
